Alyssa's Lesson Plan Ideas

Math Grade 2: Al the alligator (an oven mit) always eats the larger of two numbers. I will write two numbers on the board. We will discuss which of those numbers is larger (farther away from 0). Now I will show students that if Al was going to eat one of those numbers he would eat the number -. And point the mouth of the puppet towards that number. I will repeat several times until I feel that students are beginning to understand the idea. Then have two students come to the front and draw two numbers. Then I will have them stand facing the rest of the class. As a class decide which number is greater and have Al eat that number. Repeat with the remaining numbers.

Reading Kindergarten: I will Read We’re Going on a Bear Hunt to the children and explain to them that they will be acting out the book. First, they need to recall the order of the settings the family had to go through. Next, using the pictures, I will have the children place the settings in order. The children will then match the phrases to the pictures. Now with the help of me, the children will act out the story using the pictures as guides and acting out the journey of the family.

Science Grade 4: I will introduce students to the water cycle and describe how this cycle works, defining the words 'evaporation' and 'condensation.' Next, I will discuss how we get rain and snow and encourage children to speculate about the movement of water through the environment. I will then hand out supplies and explain that they will produce a model of the water cycle. Then I will instruct students to fill their jar about 1/3 full with water. I will have students place the jars directly in sunlight. One hour later, students get their jars and observe.
